2018 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay Napa Valley
Golden straw-colored in the glass, this wine opens with cinnamon and ripe peach, bolstered by aromas of melon and pear. Initial lemon curd and ripe orange transitioning to summer stonefruit and the auestere acid underneath. The finish is bright and fresh with ripe apricot, orange marmalade and a slight sweetness by peppered by toasted almond and clove.
About the Winery:
Established in 1882 and a pioneer in California winemaking, Chateau Montelena is best known for their participation in the 1976 Judgment of Paris; a historical tasting where their Chardonnay won blind tasted against French wines. Books, documentaries, and the Bottle Shock movie tell the story of this event. The estate is known as one of the most beautiful places in napa and features a stone castle built into the hillside overlooking a Chinese garden, lake, and vineyards that reach to the base of Mt. St. Helena.
